IT was a double celebration for cleaning service Poppies Lyme Bay recently, as it marked 10 years in business and 10 years under the management of Carolann Manjang.
The company celebrated by presenting a bouquet of flowers to its very first customer, Charmouth resident Peggy Marriott, who still regularly uses the service today.
Peggy, who signed up for the Poppies service as soon as it was set up, was full of praise for the domestic cleaning company, and said: “They have been wonderful and I could not do without them. They have never let me down.”
The company, a franchise of the national Poppies brand, was set up in 2007 by Graham Iszatt and is based in Wooton Fitzpaine, near Charmouth, but covers a large territory across the Lyme Bay area – from West Compton to Sidmouth and inland to Yeovil. The franchise has expanded over the years, now with nine staff, and it is currently looking to recruit more cleaners.
They offer a friendly, domestic cleaning service with weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly or one-off cleans available to meet each client’s individual needs.
The national brand Poppies was established by the late Sue Rorstad in County Durham in 1980 and she soon decided to make the business a franchise opportunity, creating more jobs across the country, with the first franchise bought in 1984.
Sue later received the MBE for services to domiciliary care.
The company retains its original philosophy of giving a fair deal for its employees. It aims to provide clients with a high quality, professional and consistent service and achieves this by treating its employees in the same way.
